Amazing Grace

It was 2 years ago in TX, that I was sitting in a cute little tea house for the first time and was captivated by this beautiful stained glass cross.
The 3 lilies reminded me of Calvary and Jesus being the white lily in the middle - a pure sacrifice for our sins. But He was also speaking to me about how He sees me like this pure white lily because of the blood that he shed on the crossand how in Him, we are the righteousness of God.
I was so inspired by the beauty of it, I decided to paint it as one of the 20 silks that I was making to sell in a Dallas boutique the next month for their Easter display.
Although it hung in the store for several weeks, it didn’t sell, and over the following year it hung at a coffee shop in GA and was at a women’s conference…however it was never purchased. All of the other 19 beautiful silks had sold at the conference, but not this one….
…not until today, that is! Almost a year later, out of the blue, a woman told my friend she wanted to buy one of my silks and frame it for a special spot in her home. And the moment she came over and saw it today she said, “This is it!” In fact, she didn’t even look at the other 15 silks hanging next to it!
The silk is called “Amazing Grace” and as I reflect on it now, it reminds me of the grace of being beautifully broken and the grace of waiting, especially as a single person waiting for a mate.
So often, as single people we can feel like this silk - passed by and overlooked- not quite measuring up to the other shiny silks that people choose. But the truth is we are already CHOSEN by God. Perfectly loved and beautiful in every way because of His handiwork in our lives and His light shining through us.
It’s always special to see who God hand-picks to buy each silk that I make. Sometimes they sell quickly and sometimes it’s years before they are bought, but it’s always special to see and hear the significance of the story of who buys each one.
In the same way, we as singles can stand TALL in strength and dignity, like the lily, knowing we are ALREADY wanted and desired, and already beautiful in every way simply because we’re His. And as we do, people see and notice and admire, and we inspire others because of the beauty and grace of God shining through us.
…and then eventually, at just the right time, out of the blue, the RIGHT person will come along and see us and say “This is it!” This is exactly what I’ve been looking for!
